Moms! If we aren’t careful, we can accidentally take on some or all of these. While we do have some things on our plate that just come with the territory, examples: Pregnancy & Breastfeeding, we should ask for help from our families to share the rest of the load!
Be specific with what you need and don’t wait until it makes you rage-y. Also, we can easily think we can do baby-related things better/more easily, so we take on more of a load that in turn makes us resentful to our family. We can change this by letting them do things their way and by starting with something small.
A way that we have worked through this at my house is by my husband and I writing down regular tasks that we do and also what we think the other person does. Then we read them out loud to compare. By the way, our kids are 10 & 6, so this continues well beyond newborn life!
What we read and heard helped us feel heard, appreciate the other person, and surprised us with some things we actually didn’t realize the other person was carrying. Don’t forget that kids can eventually become old enough to do chores! It will get easier, momma. But please help others help you by asking them to share the load.
